Community Members Contribute Over 300 Care Items for Toddlers & Infants During Investment Firm’s Donation Drive to Help Local Single Mothers & Families on the Path to Self-Sufficiency

AUSTIN, TEXAS—October 12, 2017—Ascendant Capital has wrapped up a community donation drive in which its team members, as well as Austin residents, contributed more than 300 care items and toiletries for toddlers and infants, which will go to young mothers and families working with the LifeWorks organization.

LifeWorks operates 17 programs designed to empower homeless and at-risk youth, returning veterans, young families, and single mothers in the Austin area to overcome abuse and trauma and become self-sufficient. The advocacy organization’s programs focus on helping young adults and families in crisis find housing, education, and employment in their local communities.

The young mothers and families who are improving their lives with support from LifeWorks have received 312 new care and hygiene items for toddlers and infants, including pillows, cups, bowls, teething rings, pacifiers, diapers, and towels, thanks to Ascendant Capital’s donation drive.

Annual Golf Tournament Raises Money for Cool Kids Campaign, which Seeks to Improve the Quality of Life for Pediatric Cancer Patients & Their Families

AUSTIN, TEXAS—September 29, 2017—Ascendant Capital is proud to sponsor this year’s Dan Jansen Celebrity Classic, which will take place September 30 to October 2, 2017 at the Trump National Golf Club Charlotte in Mooresville, N.C. The annual event brings together professional athletes and celebrities to play golf and raise funds for Cool Kids Campaign, a non-profit organization committed to providing emotional, social, and academic support for children who are battling cancer.

The golf tournament is hosted by Olympic speed skater Dan Jansen, who won the Gold Medal in the 1,000-meter race at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. Past participants in the Dan Jansen Celebrity Classic include Olympic speed skater Bonnie Blair, Rascal Flatts lead guitarist Joe Don Rooney, former National Football League players Sterling Sharpe and Lance Smith, former National Hockey League players Clark Gillies and Jack O’Callahan, former Major League Baseball players Rollie Fingers and Ozzie Smith, and actor and former NFL player Ed Marinaro.

Cool Kids Campaign provides a variety of social, educational, and academic programs and resources for child cancer patients and their families. The organization’s initiatives include the Cool Kids Clubhouse, a facility in Towson, Md., which allows pediatric cancer patients, their siblings, and their parents to be themselves while socializing with families in similar circumstances; Cool Kids Camp, an annual weekend sleepaway camp in the Baltimore area that invites patients and their siblings to participate; a quarterly newspaper delivered free of charge to pediatric oncology hospitals nationwide; and care packages which are sent to children newly diagnosed with cancer around the U.S.

Ascendant Capital Hires Two New Executives

Ascendant Capital LLC, an alternative investment firm based in Austin, Texas, hired Brian Weisenberger to serve as the executive director of product development and due diligence. The firm also hired Albert Thompson to serve as the director of capital markets.

In his new role, Brian Weisenberger will lead efforts relating to product development and structuring, due diligence and product training, and will serve on the firm’s executive committee. He brings more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry with past roles in portfolio management, investment research, due diligence, and product development. Weisenberger joins Ascendant Capital from Williams Financial Group where he held the position of senior vice president of alternative investments. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Texas at Austin and is a chartered financial analyst.

Albert Thompson will lead the national accounts team in acquiring new selling agreements, creating partnerships with the firm’s distribution relationships, and generating new opportunities for the sales teams. With more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, Thompson joins Ascendant Capital from Hines Securities Inc. where he served as director of strategic accounts. He holds the series 6, 63, 7, and 24 licenses.
